Welcome to Week 3. By now you have at least thought about your Creation Story and your Creed. (If you haven’t, google How Do I Create A Music Brand Using Primal Branding®? and look for Week 1: Creation Story and Week 2: Creed.) Now that you can tell people where you’re from and what you’re about, the third piece is that they have to be able to identify you.

They have to know it’s you, that you are unique, and have something worth saying.

Next up. Icons.

Icons are the visuals, sounds, and symbols that slam against our senses to signify it’s You. This happens in a heartbeat, click, blink of an eye. These signals are instantaneous because icons are sensory jolts direct-wired to our primal brain to tell us if we are in danger, or if we are safe.

Do I see a tiger?

Do I smell smoke?

Did something just sting me?

Do I hear an alarm or siren?

Do I taste something bitter and potentially poisonous?

These instinctive sensations — good and bad — are figured into some deep-level part of our primal brain to protect us from harm. Our reaction is part joy and part jump. Part hip, part hop.
