Hypnotic Bridge Brings Back 1960s Psychedelic Sound
Close your eyes as you listen to one of the new releases from Stu Pope’s Hypnotic Bridge Records label and you might imagine that you are adrift on the B side of a 1966 recording by The Byrds, smack in the middle of a dissembled whiff of pot and cheap incense surrounded by Rickenbacker guitars, Farfisa organs and a steady 4/4 beat.
The psychedelic drugs market is expected to grow to $10 billion over the next seven years. And if anything is certain it’s that, psychedelic culture comes with a sound track.
During a recent telephone conversation, Pope reminds everyone that psychedelia is gaining popularity through big festivals like Levitation (formerly the Austin Psych Fest), Barcelona Psych Fest and Desert Daze in California. And remember Gizzfest in Australia.
Based in the Sierra Madres East of Los Angeles, Hypnotic Bridge releases limited edition 45RPM singles pressed on seven-inch vinyl. Just like vintage 1967, the 45s have an A-side and a B-side, one song per side with original cover art.
One thing that excites us is the resurgence of psychedelic art. Anyone who’s flipped through the vintage record store racks…
